Executive board members are the leaders of Unity Sings. They work closely with the executive director and are expected to attend weekly board meetings. Each board member directs a team who will assist them with their responsibilities. They must have excellent leadership and collaborative skills. Board members are featured on the website and social media. All board members work under the Executive Director and must be current high-school students. Communications Director
The Communications Director is responsible for managing the social media, updating the website, and managing the newsletter. Additionally, they are responsible for creating contact lists for potential interviews, performance partnerships, and more. The Communications Director directs a team of newsletter writers and website/social media managers. International applicants encouraged.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/week
Research and Blog Director
The Research Director is responsible for doing research and writing blogs on the importance of music. Research will be used for informative social media and blog posts. Additionally, the Research Director collaborates with the Programming Director to research educational programming opportunities, such as expert interviews or book talks. In this position, you will work with other board members and direct a team of blog writers and researchers. International applicants encouraged.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/week
Programming Director
The Programming Director is responsible for assisting the Executive Director in scheduling and organizing Sing for Senior performances at retirement homes and other communities in need. They are responsible for maintaining a list of contacts with various retirement communities. Additionally, the Programming Director works with the Research and Blog Director to brainstorm and organize educational programming, such as expert interviews or book talks. The programming director must be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, as we may request that they attend headquarters performances. They will also recruit and work with chapter founders to plan their performances.
Time Commitment: 2 hours/week
Sing for Seniors Chapter Director
Start a Unity Sings Sing for Seniors chapter in your school, choir, or community! In this position, you will recruit musicians from your organization (school, choir, orchestra, band, etc.) to perform in local retirement communities. You will pick repertoire and run rehearsals in preparation for your performance(s). The executive director and programming director will assist you in establishing relationships with various retirement communities and planning performances. Despite the name, you CAN start an orchestra/band chapter if you know of musicians who would be interested in performing for senior citizens! Each chapter is expected to perform at least two times per year and follow Unity Sings' performance guidelines. Chapter Directors must be current high school students. Chapter directors are volunteers and will not be compensated. In addition, all performances are on a volunteer basis, and no monetary compensation may be accepted; participants may request SSL/Community Service hours from the hosting organization.
