During the COVID-19 pandemic, the world closed down and we were no longer able to make music together. Senior citizens living in retirement homes experienced isolation like never before.
Unity Sings was founded in 2023 with our Sing for Seniors program. Since then, our founding chapter with the Children's Chorus of Washington has performed in retirement communities throughout the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.
Music is a powerful tool that brings people from all backgrounds together. We have continued to build on that philosophy, and are working to grow the organization with Sing for Seniors chapters throughout the United States and internationally. Additionally, our executive team is working to create a blog where will will post educational articles on the importance of music and the arts.
Unity Sings is a student-led organization committed to building community through music and sharing the importance of music in everyday life. We believe that music has the power to unite people of diverse ages and backgrounds. Through our programming, we bridge generational gaps and build community within our organization and the world.
Our organization's central program is Sing for Seniors, bringing student musicians to perform at retirement homes and other senior communities. The goal of this program is to spread joy through music and decrease feelings of loneliness and isolation in senior citizens living in care facilities. Visit our Sing for Seniors page to learn more.
We are working towards creating an educational blog where we will post educational content detailing the importance of music, as well as expert interviews, book talks, and more.
If you are interested in helping to grow Unity Sings, apply to be a member of our executive board or team. Visit the Get Involved page for more information.
